- If you find that you have an active covid-19 infection, we recommend performing a PCR test regardless of the stage of infection.
- If you are in the first phase of the infection, the antigen test offers you high sensitivity and precision in the results. On the contrary, if more than a week has already passed, the probability that it will offer an accurate and reliable result is drastically reduced.
- However, if you find that your period of infection is longer than 8 days, the ideal test in your case would be a serological test. Since once these days have elapsed, the amount of IgM-type antibodies present in the body will be studied.
If you find yourself facing this question, the recommended test in this case would be serology, since it is the test in charge of measuring your level of antibodies to a virus present in your body. The presence or not of these antibodies will offer us the answer as to whether or not you have had Covid.
Carrying out a PCR test consists of searching for a trace of Covid-19 present in the individual’s respiratory secretions using a swab similar to that of a cotton swab. Once the sample is extracted, the study is carried out that will indicate whether or not the patient is infected.
The test guarantees a high rate of reliability and sensitivity. In addition, this type of test is always carried out by qualified health personnel.
You will be able to know the result of the test even on the same day that you have done it.
We recommend carrying out a PCR test to give you an accurate result of whether or not you are a positive case of Covid, because it is the most accurate test regardless of the moment of infection that occurs.
Another recommended option, as long as only one week has elapsed, is to perform an antigen test.
